Schools on government hit list
Katie Fitzpatrick13/ 6/2008
SPRINGHILL High School and Balderstone Technology College have been warned to improve exam results.
The schools are on a government hit list of 638 across the country in which fewer than 30 per cent of pupils achieve at least five good GCSE grades, including English and maths.
I would imagine most of the pupils were born and raised in Britain, so there is absolutely no excuse for them to have English as a second language. Most will have been taught by English speakers from the age of four too. It's laziness on the part of parents and this filters down to their kids. English should be the ONLY spoken and written language in any UK scholl, unless the lesson is to learn a foreign one, not the other way round.

Dont they take into consideration the fact that
a great number of pupils might not have English as a first language?
