No traffic all of a Sudden ...

15/ 4/2008

WHAT A difference a day makes. On Saturday, there was still traffic chaos, as there had been for months, while a major junction reconfiguration took place at Sudden.

Then came the magic moment on Sunday when the traffic lights – which have replaced the roundabout – were switched on. And it soon became clear the multi-million pound work had done the trick.

I have lived in Castleton for many years and never had a problem with any of the roundabouts at Sudden. The junctions are a different story. With the roundabouts there was always a steady flow of traffic. Now, with the new lights, it's nothing but hold ups. Are Rochdale council trying to get a world record in how many sets of traffic lights they can put in a short space? It's all been nothing but a waste of time and money in my opinion. We have been held up for over a year, and now that the lights are in place it looks like we will be held up for the foreseeable future. Not what I'd call an "improvement!"

works great, but two comments, traffic lights outside moon furniture, and where are the signs for which lane to get in as you come off the 627.

Good headline. my experience of the new layout is the same as most reader comments. Rochdale junctions just as hectic as before but we are several million pounds worse off. I suppose we will have to see in the long run if this is safer or not.

Have other nearby traffic light timings been altered?

it has been a pain for years well done to the lads who have worked so hard and the police keeping an eye on the closures when the junction was totally closed. money well spent....for once

Maybe my sense of humour these days is sick maybe twisted but I had to laugh reading the comments on the newly opened junction at sudden. For twenty years plus ive never seen that roundabout empty of traffic exception maybe during late evening. Now all of a (sudden) no pun intended, we are lead to believe that putting yet more traffic lights at huge cost to the tax payer and unnecessary extra Co2 emmisions has miraculously saved rochdale from a congestion nightmare!

How convenient the photgrapher aimed his camera dead centre of new junction. Maybe the reason no cars can be seen is they are stacked right back upto the m627 and and opposite direction roch valley way. Maybe I will blow dust of my camera and do my own research. sorry I am not convinced we will see.

What I want to know is what is the first set of lights for coming up Roch Valley Way, by Moon's store? before you get to the actual lights? Apart from that must say 10mins knocked off my journey time of 25mins in rush hour, so I'm happy. Shame the work at Kingsway doesn't seem to have reduced the waiting time there.
