Exclusive by Helen Clifton
14/ 3/2008

A COUPLE have started legal action after their son was born with severe disabilities and later died.

A coroner ruled that Ellis Hurndall died of natural causes but that ‘neglect’ at North Manchester General Hospital during his birth had contributed to his death 10 months later.

I hope that you get the compensation that you deserve You are very, very brave people. My son died because of a rare illness and I was also diagnosed wrongly.....so please for all the people that cannot claim please make these people accountable for all the wrongdoings and please God lets hope they do not make the same mistakes again.

Fanny Hill, please read my post again, I did not mention, suggest or imply that they are not suffering, of course they are suffering and you do not need to go through that to understand just how much they are suffering. But what will a million quid get them and the rest of us. Exactly, nothing. The baby will not spring back to life and the rest of us will have a lower quality of service and therefore other babies lives will be put at risk. In your other post you have said you want to learn from this tradegy, well done, that is exactly what I believe we should do, learn from it to ensure it never happens to another child. But sueing everyone is not the answer, although it does get you a great holiday and your house paid for.

With regard to the comment made by Herehere. You obviously have never suffered such a tragic event & should keep such comments to yourself about "Cashing In". There are plenty of people in the media who make a business out of doing such that, why don't you concentrate on them, rather having a go on genuine people who are grieving.

What a beautiful little boy, your story touched my heart. I am a senior Midwife (not in this area) & I spend a great deal of time teaching midwives / doctors in emergencies. I want to make a file of examples of cases like this to personalise to all staff that by sometimes taking a bit of extra care can prevent stories like this happening & other parents experiencing what you have. I cannot comment on your care, but I want my staff to learn fom your suffering, my thoughts are with you, God Bless

HEARHEAR I HOW CAN YOU SAY SUCH CRUEL UNJUSTIFIED THINGS I WOULD HAVE THOUGHT THAT ALL HOSPITALS HAVE INSURANCE POLICIES WITH REGARD TO BEING SUED NO OTHER PATIENTS ARE BEING PUT AT RISK BECAUSE OF THIS ACTION INSTEAD OF CONDEMING THE PARENTS YOU SHOULD BE CONDEMNING THE HOSPITAL FOR ALLOWING THIS TO HAPPEN IN THE FIRST PLACE.

Good idea, sue the hospital which only serves to ensure there is less money available for staff and equipment and therefore you are pretty much signing the death warrent of even more children. I am very very sad for your loss, but how about chasing a change in policy at all UK hospitals rather than cashing in and going on a round the world trip.
