Football yobs’ racist attack on old couple.

Helen Johnson
9/10/2007

A MOB of football fans carried out a vicious attack on an elderly Asian couple.

Sixty-four-year-old Maqsooda Sattar was repeatedly spat on and then had lager sprayed on her by a gang of about 20, who chanted racist and abusive language at her.

Rangoon or Rochdale, decent people are afraid to walk the streets FACT

first of all they are not "football yobs" they are "racist yobs". It did not happen at the football, there was no cause to bring into the mix football but that does not sell papers in this God forsaken town.

Henry, the pondlife who were responsible for this cowardly attack should be unreservedly condemned for their despicable actions. But your comparison to the situation in Burma is stretching the bounds of credulity a bit too far. Comparing some mindless youths to a Burmese junta is far fetched in the extreme. As is comparing human rights. The couple in the picture CAN vote and will not go to jail for using the internet. Neither will they be forced to work as labourers for little or no pay. People in Burma who refuse to carry out this work are often shot or beaten to death. I read of one Burmese guy who was jailed for 15 years for listening to an American radio show! So please don't compare Rochdale to Burma, that is just ridiculous and an insult to the plight of the Burmese.

Helens report has over 500 words in it. But the picture of an elderlry couple squinting out of their window of their home says it all. In many parts of Rochdale, our seniors, black and white alike, are being confined to their homes in what can only be descibed as house arrest and curfew by low life criminals. What kind of a society is that? How dare our politicians and media critize life in Burma, North Korea and Iraq when human rights in Rochdale are for many non existent.
