ROCHDALE has lost its fight to save vital hospital services. Plans to axe the Infirmary’s accident and emergency, maternity and children’s departments were confirmed on Friday morning by health secretary Alan Johnson. The announcement followed a review of the Making It Better and Healthy Futures proposals carried out by a body of experts, the Independent Reconfiguration Panel.

we have been let down by a labour government i know who i won't be voting for, how many lives will be lost due to penny pinching? will the people who made this decision apologise to greaving relatives when someone dies because they didn't reach hospital in time due to traffic e.t.c.

you can only call what they are doing to the health service in the rochdale district as a crime.at atime when the goverment is telling us be more green save the enviroment they move health services miles away which means more trips on buses and cars(if you have 1).i my self worked for rochdale health until my department was axed so i know what the staff are going through.when first started work at birch hill in 1978 the goverment carried some big report on running health services better this was called the samon report.back then the joke going around was that they are trying to make the perfect hospital!!!!!! one with no patients in it well looks like they have nearly made.

Its only what I expected In truth politicians will do as the accountants say they should They assume everyone as car Oldham as it is only a few minutes away by Car but for many it means 3 bus journeys Rochdale should stand together to get this reversed

As a lifelong Labour voter and supporter I feel badly let down by the decision to close Rochdale Infirmary`s maternity unit along with the accident and emergency department. I think the voice of the people of Rochdale has been ignored. It saddens me to say that for the first time in my life I will not be voting Labour at the next General Election. C. Hicks
