THE SEARCH is on to find a selection of Rochdale’s best unsigned bands to perform in the first New Roch Revolution Live event.

Organised and sponsored by the Observer, the gig will showcase the best talent from the area on Sunday 24 August.

Since launching the New Roch Revolution in March, an array of talent from across the borough has been uncovered and now the Observer is planning to take it live.

We are searching for the best bands to rock August bank holiday weekend, with XFM DJ and Inspiral Carpets keyboard player Clint Boon acting as a guest judge during the band selection process and giving his expert opinion of the final line-up.

The Observer will be taking over a town centre venue on Sunday 24 August with seven lucky bands selected for the unsigned showcase in aid of our chosen charity for 2008/09 Springhill Hospice.

Each of the chosen bands will play a set of original tunes on stage to a packed out Twist club in Drake Street, before taking the party into the night with an indie DJ set.

If you would like to secure a slot all you have to do is send a demo CD featuring at least two original tracks to the Observer offices.

Entries will then be whittled down to a lucky seven by XFM DJ Clint Boon, Rochdale AFC match announcer and Happy Mondays tour DJ Dave Sweetmore and Observer judge Katie Storey.
