The Fractions: Hoping to breakthrough

6/ 5/2008

THE Fractions, from Rochdale, are hoping to breakthrough with the release of their new split EP.

The EP features a combination of tracks from the Fractions and fellow punk and roll band The Revenge of the Psychotronic Man.

The Fractions were formed six years ago at the Backdoor Music Project in the Broadwater Centre where the guys first met.

At the time the original members were no older than 17, but since then the line-up has changed more times than anyone can remember, with a sound that has developed from pop to melodic ska-punk.

Band members now include Graeme Kershaw, 22, guitar and vocals; Joe Tatton, 19, guitar and vocals; Martin Jackson, 21, bass; Matt Whittam, 19, drums; Andrew Summers, 23, trumpet and Ewan Mckenzie, 19, trombone and vocals.

The band has already completed whistle-stop tours of gig venues in the north during 2005 and 2007 and are hoping that their new EP will give them the funds to take their sound further south. But despite Rochdale being the band’s home, they have only played in the town once or twice due to the lack of venues in the area.

Graeme Kershaw said: "There are a lot of people who want to come out in Rochdale to see live music, but there doesn’t seem to be anywhere to put a regular night on. I’m really excited about the new EP. We’ve been friends with Revenge of the Psychotronic Man for ages and we’ve always talked about putting a split EP together and I’m just relieved it’s finally happened."

The new EP is available to pre-order online from 4 May at tnsrecords.co.uk.
