REVIEW: The Sticks @ Ruby Lounge, Manchester

Katie Storey
25/ 3/2008

THE Sticks diverted disaster and thrilled the crowd at a Ruby Sunday gig.

Playing to a packed crowd at the Ruby Lounge it was clear that the band have already gained a esteemed reputation and a posse of loyal fans.

Despite rhythm guitarist, Tom Rush breaking a string during their first song and a few technical errors with the sound system the Sticks didn't disappoint.

Teenage diva Polly Rush brought a neon glow to the stage with her sultry attitude and angelic tones, which provided an impressive contrast to brother Tom's chalky vocals and high energy performance.

The scene could have been mistaken for a mini underground festival, with the crowd chanting along to their favourite tracks while people clambered on top of shoulders to gain a better view.

Manchester University Student, Sanjay Patel, 21 said: "The Sticks are amazing! They've been as good as they were tonight every time I've seen them.

"I was shocked when I found out that they'd been together such a short time. I can't stop listening to their demo."

Departing from the stage sweating and smiling The Sticks said they got a kick out of performing and felt at home in front of the rowdy crowd.

However, the party atmosphere soon turned nasty when headliners The Naughties took to the stage, failing to live up to the previous performance and proving that it’s The Sticks who know how to rock.
