The Brightsparks

19/ 3/2008

ROCHDALE-based band The Brightsparks may have only formed a few months ago but they refuse to turn into a conventional stereotype.

The guys originally trained together on the football pitch, but have now given up scoring goals in favour of a life scoring hits.

They have an indie-pop sound inspired by contemporary artists The Libertines, The Courteeners and The Cribs.

Band members include songwriter, singer and guitarist Joel Murphy, bass player Michael James, and drummer Ben Davis, all 19 years old.

Joel was the original bright spark behind the band, performing acoustic sets around Rochdale. Inspired by his talent, the others then decided to pick up instruments and get in on the act.

The Brightsparks lads have said they are proud of their Rochdale roots and refuse to be known as just another band from Manchester. They want to keep their sound firmly fixed in the borough and are aspiring to play in Champness Hall, on Drake Street.

Their first ever gig is going to be at the Falcon Inn on Church Street in Littleborough on 3 April.
