Bathing beauties helped summer go with a splash

WITH winter upon us, it’s perhaps an appropriate time to take Bygones readers back to the lazy, hazy days of summer – and how townsfolk marked it in 1960, the year when the last National Service call-up cards were issued, the marriage of Vivien Leigh and Laurence Olivier ended in divorce and Real Madrid beat Eintracht Frankfurt 7-3 in the European Cup Final at Hampden Park.

    Riviera open air pool at Norden – long gone, but not forgotten – was THE place to be. The Riviera sports car made by Rochdale Motor Panels in the late 50,s was named after this pool, please does anybody have a photo of the pool to send to me. tony-stanton@fsmail www.rochdale-owners-club.co.uk
