£23.8M was spent on the project - funded by the Millennium Commission (£11.8M), English Partnerships (£10.9M) and a consortium of Oldham and Rochdale Councils (£1.1M). It was divided into 16 schemes managed by British Waterways on behalf of the new canal owner The Waterways Trust.

Sealocrete to Hartley Lane: Reconstruction of canal channel at Sealocrete, new road bridge at Dicken Green, construction of a new footbridge at Hartley Lane - £1.1M

Smithy & Ben Healey bridges: Construction of a new road bridge - £2.0M

Firgrove & Deepdale bridges: Construction of a new bridge at Firgrove and replace a fixed bridge with a swing bridge at Deepdale - £1.3M

Rochdale Lock and Slattocks Embankment: Restoration of eight lock structures within Rochdale. Repairs to a failing culvert wall at Slattocks. - £0.7M

Edinburgh Way to Manchester Road - A627 (M) and Manchester Road, Castleton: New bridges at Manchester Road, Castleton, Gorrels Way and across the Edinburgh Way roundabout at the end of the A627(M) - £4.6M

M62 crossing (west of junction 20 on the M62): New channel of approximately 400 metres and lock to take the canal to an existing subway beneath the M62. Modifications to the subway and two new road access bridges - £3.2M

River Irk Aqueduct, Chadderton Park, Oldham: Repairs to leaking structure - £0.1M

Grimshaw Lane Bridge, Chadderton: Replacement of fixed bridge with automated mechanical lifting bridge - £0.7M

Failsworth Town Centre: Creation of a new 260 metre channel through the site of the former Co-op supermarket. Scheme includes a new road bridge - £1.2M

Ashton Road West & Poplar Street Bridges, Oldham: Bridges reconstructed to allow sufficient headroom for navigation - £1.2M

Dredging: Removal of approximately 50,000 cubic metres of silt between Ben Healey and the Oldham/Manchester border - £2.3M

Water resources: Providing water at summit level, north of Littleborough, to allow the flight of locks to be used - £1.1M

Manchester Scheme (Ancoats, Miles Platting, Newton Heath): Removal of hard-fill material from around 3.7 kilometres of canal channel, also refurbishment of 13 locks and footbridges - £2.4M

Lock gates: Provision of new gates to refurbished locks - £0.7M

Additional expenditure: Money spent on four pilot schemes by the Rochdale Canal Trust: Redhill Street, Manchester (£355,000), A62 Bridge and locks 66-68 Oldham (£451,000), Haweswater Aqueduct (£537,000) and Little Clegg swing bridge (£93,000)
