The times they have a-changed

24/ 7/2002

HARD to believe but these two pictures are taken from exactly the same spot - 30 years apart.

On the left, from the 1970s, two children play in the canal with Ashfield Valley flats as the backdrop. The picture is taken from the beginning of the culverted sectionm of the canal which kept water flowing between Edinburgh Way and Gorrells Way after the line of the canal was sliced in two to accommodate the A627M.

In the distance is another culvert where the bridge to Dicken Green caused another obstruction to the flow.

Fast forward to 2002 and Ashfield Valley has gone. Just peeking through the trees in the background is Holiday House - home of Airtours. In the foreground is the opening of the tunnel to Gorrells Way which relinks the canal. Work in the distance is to build a bridge to Dicken Green - quite a change.
